Recently Lara obtained the Obscura Paintings for her former mentor, Professor Werner Von Croy, only to discover that he planned to have her assassinated after the paintings got into his hands. Not quite sure of the power that the paintings possessed, Lara's new partner Kurtis Trent, informed Lara of the true nature behind the paintings and their connection to a man named Pieter Van Eckhardt also known as the Black Alchemist. Knowing that Eckhardt needs the last Obscura Painting still in Lara and Kurtis' possession, the two of them headed off in search of Eckhardt to stop him from letting his plan come to pass.
