Derby was once Lara Croft's home, when she was created there, in the house of Core Design, in 1995. Not it looks like there might soon be a "Lara Croft Way" in the city. Our Heroine made the shortlist out of over 100 nominees. Till January 31st 2010 people can vote on one of the eight candidates at http://www.derby.gov.uk/. The two winners will be picked as names for the new streets.

The first details of the next instalment in the Tomb Raider franchise reveals that we will be taken to Lara's past as a storm wrecks her research vessel, leaving her stranded on a mysterious and remote island off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants, the island is oddly deserted and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island's past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.

Hunt or Be Hunted: Evade, outsmart, track, and kill the mysterious enemies that hunt you as prey.

Survival Action: Brutally attack and defend yourself as you fight to survive through visceral one-on-one melee combat.

Strategic Weapons: Gain an advantage in combat by finding an array of different melee and ranged weapons including a variety of guns and the hunter's ultimate weapon, the bow.

Creative Survival: React and adapt to the island by using only that which you can salvage from the environment like climbing axes, rope, and machetes that can be used to unlock new traversal and combat gameplay options.

Free Movement: Scramble up a vertical cliff, sprint and leap across a huge chasm, steer mid-air to land a misdirected jump. There is no right way to traverse, survive, and explore the harsh environment of the island.

One Cohesive World: The diverse multi-region island is an open playground alive with creatures, weather, and natural events.

Origin Story: This new Tomb Raider concept reboots the franchise by exploring the origins of Lara Croft's transformation into a hardened adventurer as you unravel the story behind the island's mysterious past.

The "Tomb Raider" franchise is getting a reboot, but this time it won't include Angelina Jolie. The long awaited third Tomb Raider movie takes us back to Lara's past. Rumours of Megan Fox being the new tomb raider are still floating about, but nothing has been confirmed. As always, you can discuss this news and everything else in our forums.

Ian Livingstone isn’t the Eidos president for nothing. He’s a walking, breathing hype machine for the next Tomb Raider title, and it's great to have him here.

In an interview with Gaming Indians, Livingstone talked about Underworld’s supposedly lackluster performance and Tomb Raider’s appeal as a continuing franchise. “As a franchise, I don’t think Lara Croft is going down at all. In fact, her popularity continues to increase.” He goes on to compare Lara’s commercial and critical performance across games to James Bond. “If you look at movies, James Bond has survived 40 years. Not all those films have been great, but the character remains strong.”

But that’s not even the juicy part.

On the ninth Tomb Raider title, Livingstone says that it “will surprise a lot of people and reinvigorate the franchise. There are some remarkable things we’re doing in the next Tomb Raider to make you say, ‘Oh Lara, I love you so much!’” Well, in our case, maybe it will make us say, "Oh Lara, I love you even more!"

The official trailer for the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive downloadable content for Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara's Shadow has been released. Showing scenes from the game and new gameplay, the trailer gives you a taste of what will happen in the story.

Lara's Shadow will be released tomorrow on the Xbox Live Marketplace; rated T for teen.

The official Tomb Raider website has released information and four screenshots for the upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive downloadable content for Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara's Shadow. As we know, we'll control Lara's deadly, malicious doppelganger in this adventure, and now we know what we'll be able to do as her:

*Brand new mission and level introducing a hot and furious killing machine as a new playable character.

*Be the Doppelganger – Lara’s deadly double and play with her unique ‘Shadow Powers’.

*Use Shadow Power to slow time and massively increase the speed and force of her devastating melee attacks.

*Utilize Shadow Power to grab and move along surfaces that would be too dangerous and tough for Lara to ever climb.

*Gunplay gets serious with Shadow Fire; the weapon’s speed, accuracy and impact shatters impossibly dangerous enemies into pieces.

*125 Achievement points.
