Bonus Level

If you want to play the Bonus Level "All Hallows" you have to collect all 59 Secrets during the game. If you can't make it, I have a solution for you. PC Users can download the Savegame from the end of the last level. You just have to run to the helicopter. PlayStation User can use a Cheat: L2x5 R2 L2x3 R2 L2 R2 L2x2 R2 L2x2 R2 L2x2 (As far as I know this will not get you all secrets, just some. Repeat the cheat if necessary.)
This Bonus Level has got nothing to do with the Director's Cuts, Lost Artefact.

Walkthrough Credits and System Remarks

This walkthrough has been written by me. I first played the game on PSX but I did write the walkthrough playing both the PSX and PC Version. The major difference are the blue/green crystals. On PC they function like instant small medipacks, on the PSX Version you have to collect them and then use them to save your game.

Expert's Challenge

They are lurking in every game. And some of them can be used to finish a level early. Especially Thames Wharf is full of bugs. Check out this section to learn how to shortcut. You can also click "Shortcut with Bugs" in the main menu. (not recommended for beginners, "2nd years" only ;-))

Training (Mansion)

There is more to do than practicing your skills. Find the key to the race track. Use the corner bug to get onto the roof of Lara's Mansion. Here I tell you how to do it! If you don't want to practise Lara's Moves here or you want to learn during game have a look at my Moves Section.

Weapons and Opponents

Find out about the weapons and opponents in Tomb Raider IV. It's very important to use the right weapon on the right baddie or you might be wasting ammo or even worse you might not be able to kill the baddy.

Savegames and Cheats

For situations where you are completely stuck and cannot get out. I offer only India and Nevada at the moment. I will make some more after finishing the walkthroughs. They are in German but should work on English versions as well. (Game was not patched.)
I have tried the cheats for the Playstation 1 (PSX) and the PC myself, they work fine. There might be differences between PAL and NTSC. I only have the PAL Version.

Which Level Should I Choose After India?:

After completing India you can choose where to go next. Nevada, South Pacific or London.
I recommend going to Nevada first. Lara's weapons will be taken away in Nevada's second Level. So if you play Nevada early you get the chance to collect all weapons again afterwards and the loss wont be that bad.

Locations

In this file you will find a description of the TR3 locations.

Comments on the Game

Compared to Tomb Raider I and II, Tomb Raider III is more difficult. Which is mainly because of the new moves "crouching" and "monkey swing" but also because objects like goodies and pushable objects are not very easy to find (use a flare to light them up). Many goodies are hidden at places you won't go if you're just looking for the exit, so you have to leave the paths to find them.

Cannot create a savegame file on Vista?

You might be unable to save your game under vista if you don't have administrative rights. Run the game as administrator to save.

Patches and Technical Support

If you have any problems with the game I advice you to download the patches from Eidos they also have faqs.

This will not solve any 2000/XP Problems, please visit www.tombraiderchronicles.com if you need a 2000/XP Patch.

If you have Windows XP, install the latest Service Pack, in most cases the game will then run without any patches! If not, try right clicking on the tomb3.exe and choose properties, set compatibility to Windows 95. I won't help you with this, my recommendation is: Get the latest service pack!!!

I am not an expert on PC specific problems, since I never had any with the games. I prefer to play on consoles so please do not email me if your game isn't working.

Some more tips:
  • Download the latest drivers for your video/sound cards
  • Install the Direct X Version that came with the game you are having trouble with, or better: the latest version.
  • Start the Game from the Windows Menu only not from CD.
  • If nothing helps get a "new" PC ;-)
