| Paris, Section 2 - The Derelict Apartments(The Angel of Darkness Walkthrough by Nick the Rogue)
This walkthrough was send in by Nick the RogueWelcome to the walkthrough for the second Parisian level in Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness... After watching the nifty cut scene of a Helo tracking you from above and a few SWAT goons chasing you indoors, the scene opens on Lara in the lobby of a now abandoned tenement building with the aforementioned goons banging on the door. Don't dally in the lobby as there's nothing there but soon to be trouble. Run up the stairs next to the elevator. Once on the first level (that's the first landing above the lobby), a small, in-game cut scene shows the SWAT bozo's busting in and tossing what looks to be a gas grenade. You can pull the Cabinet right next to the front door to block them, but (being the testosterone junkies that SWAT guys are) they just plow on through. Don't go back down the stairs as the head goon lies in wait for you at the bottom of the lobby stairs. I don't know if he'll fire on sight as I never gave him the opportunity. Check the hall on the first floor for items (there shouldn't be any, but it doesn't hurt to look), then walk to the gap in the stairs that leads up to the next level. The gas should start rising at this point and your oxygen meter will start dropping, so make sure you step lively. Jump the gap and head to the second floor and note that an apartment on the second floor is locked. The key is on the top floor, but we'll get to that later. Watch the little in-game cut scene of the ceiling dropping (don't worry, it just makes for an interesting show and a long jump in a minute or so) and check the hallway for items and back yourself into its corner as you're going to need a running jump for this next one. Dash your way to the edge and lunge for the other side, remembering to hold the action but so you grab the ledge at the end of your arc. Check for items and walk up to the armoire that blocks the next set of stairs. Use the action button and pull it away, then run around it and up to the third floor (Gas, people... don't forget the gas). Head down the hall and pick up the Small Medipack, then check the apartment on this floor for items. A battery pack and a set of shotgun shells should be your prize. Run around the elevator cage and pick up the bandages in the next hall, then head up the stairs (Um, I've mentioned the GAS before... right?). The entrance to the next landing is blocked, but just a few stairs back is a box that is distinctly movable (IF you broke down the door to the apartment on the third floor that is... mmm, Lara feels stronger now). If you can't move it and feel you have enough air, head back down to the third floor stash and gain that extra bit of strength. Pull the box towards the stairs leading down, then walk around to the other side and push it even farther. This gives you a jumping platform from which you can reach the rail on the fourth (and final) level. Unfortunately, you can't just climb on the box (perhaps because its movable... All I know is I couldn't... It just could have been me). My strategy was to quick roll after pushing the box into its final position and running 'till I hit the wall, then backflipping onto the box. Walk to the edge of the box closest to the rail and forward jump/grab the rail. The gas will creep up with you, but once you go through the door on your right, you should get a quick breather. From this point, you can do one of two things. Either walk straight to the door and end the level or pick up the two keys (one on the floor and the other on the wall) and get the items in the locked second floor apartment. I'll assume you've chosen the latter. Once you've gotten both the Lift Maintenance Key (floor) and the Apartment 21 key (wall), take the two steps to the elevator control panel which should be to the right of both. A short little in-game cut should show the lift gears grinding and the box itself reaching your floor. By this time the gas will have reached your level, so hightail it to the lift and choose the first floor when the buttons come into view (If you choose the second floor, you'll just have to make that annoying long jump again and it wastes precious air). Once on the first floor, head up the stairs to the right (making the quick jump over the gap... much, much easier than the long one above), and turn left into the second floor hall. Surprise! It's a gas free room. Precious, precious air for the gulping... but, it will fill up fast, so search quick for the items and get on out of there. In the large cabinet rests another pistol (the Vector - R35, short range semi-automatic) to add to the one you found in the tool shed on the training stage (the M-V9 long range semi-automatic) and the desk drawers should hold another candy bar and another box of V-Packer Shotgun Shells. Head back out of the apartment and drop through the long jump hole to the first floor landing where the elevator should be waiting (meh, if it's not or you left it on another floor, just call it again). Ride the lift up to the fourth floor, turn off the elevator via the lift control panel again (I don't know if this does anything, but it can't hurt), and head out the door. For a bit of fun you could take the lift down to the lobby (Button Zero) and walk up behind the Head SWAT Goon guarding the landing stairs. He's not that tough if you come up behind him with the action button blaring (remember, no bullets... so keep those guns holstered and go hand to hand) and keep his back to you, but he doesn't leave you anything and if you get too close to his two support goons with the riot shields, its game over. Best to just leave for the rooftops than bother. Congratulations, you've just completed the second level of the Parisian mission. walkthrough by Nick the Rogue | ||||||||||
